Tohono O'odham Nursing Care Authority serves the community of the Tohono O'odham Nation, in Southern Arizona, by providing short-term and long-term care for aging elders. We are a Native American community dedicated to providing quality of care, while embracing our traditional values and way of life.
GENERAL PURPOSE: An integral member of the Health Care Team responsible for giving and directing care to the residents. A long-term care Registered Nurse specializes in providing ongoing care to patients with chronic illness or disabilities. A Registered Nurse is skilled in gerontology, patient advocacy, and healthcare management. The Registered Nurse is responsible for creating and implementing individualized nursing care plans to ensure the well-being and safety of their residents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: In addition to performing Essential Functions, this position may be required to perform a Combination of supportive functions based upon the requirements of the organization.
- Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates total care for the residents.
- Gives direct total care to residents according to the residents’ needs and/or assigns these functions to appropriate personnel.
- Teaches and assists residents to reach their maximum attainable state of well-being.
- performs and records therapeutic measures prescribed and delegated by medical authority, i.e., medications and treatment.
- Make rounds with the provider and assist as needed.
- Continuously evaluates symptoms, reactions and progress of residents and observes, records and reports to appropriate person.
- Participates in intra- and inter-departmental activities designed for residents.
- Applies nursing theory and practice, administrative technique, knowledge of current research and teaching principles toward the goal of quality resident care and promotion of health practices.
- Organizes, administers and supervises the implementation of a written nursing care plan for each resident for whom he/she is responsible.
- Contributes pertinent data to the clinical nursing record about residents’ nursing care and progress.
- Directs entry of appropriate information into charts and reviews information after entry into computer.
- Stimulates independence in thinking and in decision-making.
- Recognizes the need for consultation and initiates the request to the Nurse Manager.
- evaluates the nursing care given by all nursing personnel for whom he/she is responsible.
- Renders assistance to those engaged in nursing research and the development of new patterns of nursing care.
- Assists in the educational program of any student who is receiving clinical experience under the nurse’s guidance.
- All staff is always required to follow all safety regulations and precautions.
- Staff must ensure that their department is maintained in a clean and safe manner by assuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are maintained.
- Report all hazardous conditions/equipment to immediate supervisor/manager.
- Report all accidents/incidents to immediate supervisor/manager within 24hrs.
- All staff must wear protective clothing and equipment when handling infectious waste and or blood/body fluids or when doing Hazardous work i.e., working with chemicals, electrical or day to day maintenance repairs.
- All Staff are required to participate in the O’odham Centered Care - Managers/Supervisors will help staff in assisting in participating in Person Centered Care.
- Assists in the orientation of new personnel.
- Recognize your role as part of the QAPI efforts of your organization.
- Attend trainings to build understanding and capacity to undertake QAPI work.
- Carry out QAPI roles and responsibilities as assigned.
- Follow established policies and procedures in support of QAPI efforts.
- Look for and share with leadership ideas for improvement in the organization.
- Communicate to leadership upon witnessing a positive outcome of a QAPI project or detecting barriers preventing project success.
- Support QAPI efforts both verbally and non-verbally (i.e., via actions and attitude), including adjusting performance and practice in accordance with QAPI initiatives and findings.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate of Sciences (AS) degree in Nursing or a Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Nursing from a four-year college or university.
- 6 months to 1-year skilled nursing experience and/or training preferred.
- Current RN license in the State of Arizona and remain in good standing throughout employment.
- CPR certification upon hire and must remain current and in good standing throughout employment.
