All in a days work |
D&M Maintenance Technicians are primarily generalists, required to manage complex repairs and maintenance solutions for electrical, mechanical, carpentry, plumbing and climate-control systems. In this role, replacing broken fixtures, patching cracks in concrete pavement or drywall, and painting worn surfaces would be common tasks. Technicians will also be responsible for maintaining all building structures within the community and the surroundings in a clean, usable and safe manner.
For more complicated and specialized problems or trades vendors may be occasionally called upon, with proper authorization.
It’s all in the details
Along with the mechanics of this position, we also ask for an attention to detail. Proper installation and preservation of equipment, detailed completion of inspections and talent to complete work order requests and unit turn overs promptly must be of top priority.
Detailed record keeping is part of the daily activities performed by our Technicians. This includes inventory/part control, work order details, logs, etc.
The right attitude is key
Technicians consistently meet with Community Managers to help ensure expenses are properly maintained and that the needs of all Residents, and the building, are being met. Therefore, positive, upbeat, Resident, co-worker and vendor interactions are mandatory.
Safety is a must
Technicians must be able to interpret and practice safety standards. To minimize hazards, wearing protective clothing, such as gloves and steel toed boots is recommended.
Knowledge in the correct handling, storage and use of general power, air, hand and measuring tools, as well as flammable, hazardous and/or contaminated materials, chemicals and debris is required.
This position will require physical stamina, capability to stand, walk or lift for long periods at a time and the ability to tolerate temperature extremes, indoors and outdoors, must be considered.
What do I need? |
There are a few recommendations we have:
- No formal education is required; although, courses or certifications in shop, pools, trades, computers and science may be helpful.
- While apartment maintenance experience is ideal, on the job training will be offered by experienced Maintenance Technicians, or from supervisors, to best qualified candidates.
- Skill set should include the ability to work independently and/or take direction as the position/tasks require, strong communication, comprehension and mechanical inclination.
- Working evenings, weekends or on-call hours may be required, a flexible, willing attitude necessary.
