Seeks Outstanding Superintendent

Chief administrative officer for the School District. Shall be responsible to the Board for the recruitment and employment of all personnel, for the oversight of curriculum development, administrative rules, regulations and procedures to implement the educational program within the framework of State laws, rulings, and regulations of the Arizona Department of Education and policies of the School Board.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Relationship with the Board:
It is the primary duty of the Board to establish policies and that of the Superintendent to administer such policies. Advises Board on need for new or revised policies and sees that all policies are implemented. The Superintendent should be given the latitude to determine the best method of implementing the policies of the Board.
Communicates openly with the Board. Makes all administrative decisions necessary to the proper function of the District. Prepares and submits to the Board recommendations on all matters requiring Board action. Recommendations are supplemented with necessary and helpful facts, information, and reports as needed for the Board to make informed decisions. Supervises effective administration of all federal, state, and local laws, state regulations, and Board policy. Delegates powers or duties to other district employees. Delegation does not relieve Superintendent of final responsibility for action taken under such delegation.
Prepares agendas for Board meetings, in consultation with the Board President and in conformity with Board policy. Supervises the preparation of minutes and other records of the proceedings of the board.
Remains impartial towards and refrains from criticism of the Board.
Arranges for regularly scheduled staff presentations to the Board on various aspects of the curriculum.
Submits annual goals.
Creates with staff a Strategic Plan to include a district vision, mission, and goals. This shall take into consideration both current and long-range planning for overall district improvements.
Together with staff, studies and revises all curriculum calendars and associated resources in order to implement the State Standards for academics. This shall allow for classroom autonomy while adhering to currently prescribed best practices.
Recommends to the Board textbooks or other materials for adoption for the educational advancement of the schools, including current technological resources, where financially feasible, to staff and students.
Provides for professional growth opportunities for staff through the facilitation of a collaborative model (ie Professional Learning Communities) and educational trainings.
Conducts school visits to collaborate with principals on goal achievement for the school and progress towards those goals.
Collaborates with the District Leadership Team to ensure best practices are being utilized, current resources utilized, technology integrated, and opportunities provided for all teachers for growth.
Recruits candidates for open positions utilizing various means in our interest in discovering the best qualified and most competent applicants. Works to retain staff by encouraging fair, participatory decision making processes that encourage collaboration.
Communicates all actions to the Board for the hiring/promotion/dismissal of all district personnel.
Determines assignments, definition of duties, chain of command, and position goals in relation to all staffing positions in the district.
Discusses salaries and benefits with certificated and classified personnel to ensure two-way communication concerning state funding allocations and the effect on future wages.
Coordinates the evaluation of all staff according to State law and District policy.
Business and Financial Matters:
Assumes responsibility for all financial oversight and planning to include: the preparation of the annual budget, grants management, expenditure reports, long-range financial needs, utilizing a control system for financial accounting and purchasing, and timely reporting to the Board.
Supervision of Building/Grounds and Transportation:
Works with maintenance personnel to determine facility and grounds needs for improvement.
Works with the State Facilities Board to secure Building Renewal Grants to finance renovations to facilities.
Works with transportation personnel to determine personnel and fleet needs to ensure a safe and efficient bus system.
Ensure students are transported in accordance with law and safety requirements
Oversees the preparation of crisis/emergency preparedness plans created in conjunction with local law enforcement.
Ensure students and staff are trained annually.
Continually monitor school safety recommendations for making facilities more secure and implementing changes where financially feasible.
Represents the District before the public and maintains a program of public relations to keep the public informed about activities, needs, and accomplishments of the District.
Represents the District in dealings with other school systems, institutions, agencies, and community organizations.
Participates in school and community events.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Communicates well, verbally and in writing, in various formats with the ability to tailor presentations to the audience.
Establishes work priorities based on deadlines and timeliness of tasks to ensure efficient operation of the District.
Produces detail oriented work that is exceedingly sufficient for assignments.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Masters Degree with advanced graduate work
Superintendent’s Certificate required.
Previous experience as a school principal or district level administrator
Experience with supervision and management
